From a very informed customer:  This is most likely an LED used as part of a fiber optic communication system.  “The 875 nm LED is short for IR fiber optic communication systems which typically operate at wavelengths much longer. This may explain why it does not have a laser class warning label. IR lasers can be dangerous because you cannot see the beam. If powerful enough, they can blind you because your normal blink reflex to close your eye if hit by a bright light does not work”
